Orlando, Miami and Fort Lauderdale were among the cities with burger establishment deemed well done.
Getting props for Orlando is downtown's Pine Twenty 2, which claims more than 322,000 ways to make your burger.
In a review from the Orlando Sentinel's Heather McPherson from Jan. 23, 2011, she writes:
"Newcomers will feel compelled to make decisions quickly. Relax. If a table is available and you want to build a burger, sit down and take your time selecting the meat (five options), bun (six types), cheese (10 varieties), sauces (22 ways to slather on the flavor), veggie and fruit toppings (19 choices) and finally the "premium" topping (nine ways to go from applewood smoked bacon to fried egg). This is what I did on my second visit and I didn't feel rushed to make my decisions...
"Chef Kathleen Blake's theme here is humanely handled, hormone- and antibiotic-free ingredients. The sourcing not only supports the local economy it gives guests a bite of big natural flavors..."
"Sides here rock, especially the pine (crisp shoestring spuds) and the sweet potato fries. The clean, crisp flavors were a great foil for a juicy burger. The hush puppies were just swell with a nice balance of savory and sweet."
Pine Twenty 2 is located at 22 E Pine St. Orlando, FL 32801. 407-574-2160.
The Le Tub Saloon took top honors in Fort Lauderdale with what Zagat described with quotes from its user reviews as:
"In a 'crummy old' former 'gas station' in Hollywood festooned with 'driftwood', 'old tubs and toilets' you’ll find what some (e.g. Oprah) say are 'the best burgers ever': 'artery-clogging beasts' worth ditching your 'diet' for; a bit of advice: 'have patience' ('throw back a few brews' and soak up the Intracoastal view) because these 'bad boys take time to cook', and expect occasionally 'rude service'; P.S. 'they finally accept credit cards!'"
The Le Tub Saloon is at 1100 N Ocean Dr., Hollywood, FL 33019. 954-921-9425.
Flip Burger Bar makes the list for Miami, with what Zagat described with quotes from its user reviews as:
"North Miamians enamored of the 'outstanding' 'juicy' patties and 'toasted goodness' of the brioche buns at this 'friendly' plain-Jane joint claim it’s a 'real competitor to the South Beach burger scene'; it scores extra points for a 50-plus beer list, low tabs and free parking."
Flip Burger Bar is located at 1699 NE 123rd St., North Miami, FL, 33181. 305-741-3547.
